Default Accessing Amazon.co.uk in Australia

given how expensive books are in Australia is it possible to download e-books onto my Kindle (bought in the UK) from the Amazon UK website whilst in Australia?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, theres a few ways to do it. My kindle is an older one with roaming 3g, its registered to my uk amazon account, any books purchased are sent straight to the kindle even though I am in australia.

To be honest though, most people would just download them for free from a torrent site and then load them on the kinlde via the usb cable

Most people being most people you know I presume?

Which says more about your circle of friends than anything else.

It's a pretty pathetic state of affairs when people think that they are entitled to have something for free when the creative person behind it gets nothing.

And it says much about the direction the human race is collectively going.

Encouraging piracy is also against site rules ...

Polly, shut up about those music DVDs.

There are also ways of getting an American postal address and using that for Amazon.com. Very handy ...

I never said I do it, I never said I encourage it in my post did I?, but I do approve of the ideas behind it. A lot of people cannot afford to buy new books so they turn to downloads. The majority of authors write because they love to create and want to put something out in the world. They dont do it to get rich. If you approached them and asked would you rather only those that were wealthy enough to buy your book get to read your work, or would you rather everyone could, I know what they would choose.

I think it says a lot about your character to try to insult someone you dont know and their 'circle of friends' thats the kind of negativity that should be against site rules.

Maybe not, but it is reasonable to expect to receive pay for their work from people who choose to experience the product.

The person you mention who isn't "wealthy" enough to buy a low price ebook seems able to own a much higher priced kindle or similar?

Piracy is a crime, you seem to be advocating it.

Of course.

However, content holders are testing the limits of community acceptance of their right to be paid for content when they, a. refuse to sell their product in a particular country/territory, and b. charge a higher price in certain countries (e.g. Australia) for electronic content than in other countries with absolutely no justification for doing so.

And in particular, the taking of active steps to restrict or prevent residents of one country buying electronic media in another country.

Apply the spotify model to ebooks and visual media and everyone will be happy.

Until then the rip off international traders with their unfair playing feild digital media reap their own destiny.

Surely it's almost as llegal to have a UK or US address to gain financial advantage over digital media as getting it for 'nout.

I would think where illegality lies is with the Publishers.
So many Australian code of practice laws are not being observed its disturbing.
RRP is enforced , failure to follow it and the (ebook) shop is denied stock.
Booktopia has obviously had its epub lists decimated by refusal of the publishers to sell stock to them.

In the last month big Publishers have closed two English ebook shops that did sell to Australia and Waterstones will not sell now, nor will other ones that previously did ( only 3 weeks ago )
Coercion must be being applied for this to happen , but you can still buy the same books at the same price ( as Waterstones who were not the cheapest ) from Amazon !!!

rant over

Depends on what basis you are using the address - if ifs an address you live at part of the time, or spend a lot of time at, I think its legitimate to use it. Also as I spend a lot of time in the UK and read the books there as well as here, I don't see there is an issue with using a UK address.
