Unhappy 457 visa - fees all to be covered by us! Is that normal?

Hi all, after many months of anguish our visas have been submitted, we should be feeling excited. We have accepted an offer on our house (low offer but same boat as everyone else).
Now we have been told we will have to meet all the costs of the visa and move ourselves! The agent who found us the sponsor only provides minimal information but even she told us to keep receipts for medicals etc as we should be able to claim them back.
In phone conversations my husband has had with his potential employer all seemed tickety boo and he said he would assist with flights an provide a relocation package blah, blah.
However we did find it odd that we didn't receive anything to outline the fees he would be paying so have sent e-mails asking. And no info regarding the relocation was ever provided. He still hasn't told us anything about it now despite directly asking him.In doing so yesterday he finally replied to say that we would have to pay all fees.
He used to pay some before his company merged and then deduced it from wages but he no longer has the facility to do this?
We havent budgeted for this and feel he has made a fool of us.
Any advise please?

I think its entirely dependent on the sponsor and what you can negotiate.
We got some reimbursement from our employer but it was a drop in the ocean. When we started working we salary packaged the balance of our relocation expenses and recouped some of the cost that way by claiming the tax back.

Also, on a 457 visa you may be eligible for 'Living away from home allowance' which may enable you and/your husband to increase your take home pay by lowering your tax burden. This makes a big difference.
