Default [SE Queensland] Water supply to run dry

"SOUTHEAST Queensland is only 18 months away from "total failure" of the drinking water supply, a top-secret Brisbane Water memo leaked to The Courier-Mail has starkly warned."

http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.a...5E3102,00.html

Pretty scary stuff. Especially with all the people heading that way.

Or is it just paper talk?

Much less than Queensland :scared:

Many parts of Australia are really on the edge where freshwater is concerned.

Did I read somewhere that SA is planning on some sort of de-salinisation plant or was I dreaming?

May have been Vic perhaps. A Vic state govt report from a couple of years ago said that Melbourne's water will run out by 2012.

What are the other options apart from desalination?

Problem is.... some areas are hell bent on development without considering whether or not the infrastructure can take it.

South Australia takes virtually all it's water from the Murray river and that is under considerable pressure from Agriculture way upstream ( in NSW and Qld).

This is a serious matter if you are planning to live in a place with no viable water supply.

Logging in catchment areas is another major contributor to dwindling water supplies.

Quite right HP.

Unfortunately it is a Federal system and one state could basically not give a Sh*t about how their decisions affect their neighbours.

I missed that one.
When I was in Brisbane last year I actually took a photo of the Brisbane riverbank because the water was well down (4 months plus snice any decent rain I think) but then a couple of days later, the heavens opened and it chucked down for 3 or 4 days. Most of the locals we spoke to at the time were pretty chuffed with that

Who needs rain

Surely not when you've got sunshine, beaches and BBQs to sustain you
