Default $130k in Brisbane - any good?

I put a similar question out regarding Melbourne, but my job potential has now moved to Brisbane. Is Brisbane cheaper than Melbourne, can we rent a decent place for $2500 and live "well" if earning $130k - I have a wife & 3 kids under ten. We don't want flash cars or a castle, but want to enjoy our time there & not be too worried about finances if we can help it.

Please let me know, thanks!

I think you'd easily get by on that.

I haven't been to Antarctica yet, so I can't compare prices.

We enjoy life on considerably less. But I see you may need a 5 bed house!. We have a 4 bed 40km South of Brisbane. Was $400K 18 months ago. And rent for similar was $1500 to $1700 pcm at that time

Depends entirely on where you live and what time you travel, like most cities. The Pacific Motorway (main route in from the south) is usually a nightmare after 7:30-8:00am and the same going out after 4:00pm. The new northern suburbs (North Lakes and thereabouts) have to come in via the Bruce Highway which is just as bad.

If you need to get to the CBD daily the best plan is to find somewhere within a short walk of a railway station as the train system is pretty good and reasonably reliable.

I'm currently supporting a family of 3 kids (under 6) and my wife is at home full time on just a little under that, so I can't imagine you'd have too much difficulty

No, we bought about 6 years ago. But mortgage would be $440 a week

Travel wise:-I have to drive to Darra most days(south west Brizzzy), M1/Logan(toll road) motorway takes about 35 mins, M1 and through suburbs takes an hour. the company won`t pay toll but pay for my petrol. So I take the long route. South side of Brisbane takes about 40 mins from Ormeau. Even on very slow days. And thats most days now. Theres some nice areas South east & North East of Brizzy, But we like it down near Goldcoast, Surfers 25 mins away and the Mountains/Lamington nat parks etc 40/45 mins. Happy hunting.
