It's allowed but you must declare it.

Are you seriously thinking of taking that amount in cash?

The $10k figure is only for undeclared cash.

You can bring any amount of money you want into Australia. Certainly no-one is going to complain if you bring over $10m.

Most people transfer their money electronically - it's a bit safer than it coming in their back pocket.

Erm .... Australia does have banks, bank accounts, and debit cards ....

You can set up a bank account from the UK (e.g. Westpac, CommonwealthBank, ANZ), use a company like Ozforex or HiFX to transfer the money, and it'll all be there for you when you arrive in Oz. Just report to the bank with your passport on day 1 and they'll give you your debit cards and cheque book and you can draw money out of your account (that's what we did with Westpac).

If you do decide to take cash, can you let me know when you are flying out and from where, what you will be wearing and in which pocket you will keep the cash. Oh and while I think of it, wearing baggy clothes is supposed to be easy to pick pocket comfortable on the flight
