Please excuse my ignorance, but was in the bond for, and do you get it back? Is so when?
We emigrated to Oz in '82 and returned '94 - but going back under Australian citizenship and have never heard of having to pay a bond. Thank goodness for us!!!
Good luck everyone.

Basically because we fell 5 points short for skilled independent we are having to invest in a Australian Government Bond for 12 months. After the twelve months you do get your investment money back and interest although not a great deal I do not think.
Although its a pain its the only way we have got of getting the extra 5 points needed. No bond,no visa.

The interest rate shouldn't be too bad. It is usually around the same as a savings account (BankWest introductory rate excepted). For example, our bond was with SA and we got 5.25% which was the same as the ING savings account rate (albeit instant access). It is worth looking around the different states to get the best rate. At the time we got ours SA were offering .25% higher than the rest.
