Default Who Else Is Melting?

Melting? Are you? I live at the bottom of a few huge mountains and luckily there is often a breeze once the sun has gone down. Not right now though. The temps are around 39°C and I know they are hotter further south. My dad is here right now, he flew back from the UK with us and loved the heat and the sun, but these temps are beating him as well.

Given the spread of people on the forum I was quite surprised this subject has not already been raised on here. The local forum has been running a thread for the last week with every minor detail going. One guy insisting it was not very hot and employing a chainsaw for over 3 hours in almost full sunshine. Then deciding next day not to do the rest of the work with the saw, but instead go for a cycle ride in the mountains for hours… We on the other hand were reduced to improvising with parachute type hammocks being soaked in cold water and then getting in them. Only lasted 10-15 minutes, but it was like I imagine what being in a fridge would be like – lovely. All other sensible ideas most welcome!

Been pissing down with rain most of this week, so melting takes a different meaning.

It's not the daytime heat (nudging 40) that bothers me but the temps at night, 28 at midnight last night, 24 at dawn.

I totally agree, normally we can reduce the heat of the house over night by opening all the doors and windows, but last night the lowest official temp was 24c and that was down for less than an hour at 2, then it jumped back to 27c. Today the forecast had us down for 41c at around 15:00, that's not far off the records. Drinking loads on none alcoholic drinks including masses of water, but hardly needing the loo... not a good sign Even the Beeb here have noticed.

I'm in the mountains near Bergamo for August. Until yesterday the heat was awful here too, though not as bad as Milan and we managed to sleep at night. But then this morning we had a beautiful thunderstorm and now we're not above 25°C. Should be like this for the next 3 days...

Our thunderstorm has just hit in the last few minutes, lovely fine rain - don't need to water tonight, or tomorrow...

The first time I left the house at 7am to go to work and stepped into 28°C heat was a shocking reminder that I no longer lived in the UK .... that was in the summer of 2003.

I did experience similar, once, in the UK - but that was starting an afternoon shift at 2 pm!

When I was a student in the UK I had a summer job working nights in a warehouse, with one of the big advantages being that I went to bed around 8am. My bedroom faced west, so it was the coolest time of the day. I slept with the window wide open and it was mid afternoon before the sun made my bedroom hot.

No rain in Verona so far. Terrific storm over Lake Garda. Sunk a boat.
