Who Else Is Melting?

Who Else Is Melting?
Melting? Are you? I live at the bottom of a few huge mountains and luckily there is often a breeze once the sun has gone down. Not right now though. The temps are around 39°C and I know they are hotter further south. My dad is here right now, he flew back from the UK with us and loved the heat and the sun, but these temps are beating him as well.

Re: Who Else Is Melting?
Given the spread of people on the forum I was quite surprised this subject has not already been raised on here. The local forum has been running a thread for the last week with every minor detail going. One guy insisting it was not very hot and employing a chainsaw for over 3 hours in almost full sunshine. Then deciding next day not to do the rest of the work with the saw, but instead go for a cycle ride in the mountains for hours… We on the other hand were reduced to improvising with parachute type hammocks being soaked in cold water and then getting in them. Only lasted 10-15 minutes, but it was like I imagine what being in a fridge would be like – lovely. All other sensible ideas most welcome!

Been pissing down with rain most of this week, so melting takes a different meaning.

It's not the daytime heat (nudging 40) that bothers me but the temps at night, 28 at midnight last night, 24 at dawn.

Barometer suddenly dropped 10 points in last hour, was expecting storms on Sunday, maybe coming sooner?

I'm in the mountains near Bergamo for August. Until yesterday the heat was awful here too, though not as bad as Milan and we managed to sleep at night. But then this morning we had a beautiful thunderstorm and now we're not above 25°C. Should be like this for the next 3 days...

Re: Who Else Is Melting?
The first time I left the house at 7am to go to work and stepped into 28°C heat was a shocking reminder that I no longer lived in the UK .... that was in the summer of 2003.

Re: Who Else Is Melting?
When I was a student in the UK I had a summer job working nights in a warehouse, with one of the big advantages being that I went to bed around 8am. My bedroom faced west, so it was the coolest time of the day. I slept with the window wide open and it was mid afternoon before the sun made my bedroom hot.

No rain in Verona so far. Terrific storm over Lake Garda. Sunk a boat.
