Must pay more attention
Came into work as normal today on the Bus and then saw this on the web:
Transport strike causes huge disruption in Italy's cities
Workers protest at failure to renew contract
02 October, 10:59
(ANSA) - Rome, October 2 - A 24-hour strike by transport unions caused massive disruption in Italy's cities on Tuesday. The strike, called over the failure to reach an agreement on a contract renewal for workers in the sector, caused the metros of big cities such as Rome and Milan to be shut down.
Bus, tram and local train services were slashed.
With many people forced to take their cars to get to work, there were lots of traffic jams.
Other people were forced to walk or cycle long distances.
Good job there is the Press as otherwise I would never have known the City was in caos

Mind you i think they guaranteed services for critical times so you may have been lucky.
Isn't Rome always chaotic anyway??

Re: Must pay more attention
And in the caos here on Friday I totally missed the fact that:
The city was apparantly paralyzed and there was me using public transport all day (and into the early hours ) without even noticing!
"Unfortunately, today we are once again faced with the problems caused by a protest in our city," Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno said. "Only 1,000 students have managed to paralyze the capital."

Yes I noticed that too, I think ANSA now have an Italian doing it because there is no longer a credit to the translator on their English pages.
