Default Weat Africa and Burma

I just watched a documentary on BBC 2 by Griff Rhys Jones. He told some of the story of his father who was a medical officer with the Gold Coast Regiment in the Arakan Campaign.

As the British Empire and the Japanese Empire fought over the Raj, Ghanaian volunteers fought and died.

I had read of this and I was a bit surprised that Rhys Jones described it as a "forgotten war". I suppose it is - like the Empire itself. I am conscious that I grew up min a period in which we saw the final disintegration of the Empire. It seems stran ge to think that when I was born, George VI was still Emperor of India and Palestine was a British Mandate !

Now it is gone - "like snow off a dyke" !
