EDIT: having bothered to read the rest of the thread after my, admittedly, perhaps reactionary knee jerk post of above, I now want to bail out and say I agree with all of you to some extent and disagree to some other. And yes, I am a total shit bag and I hate purple bastards too!!! 
It has been noted on numerous trips back to northern parts of the UK that some people have a sort of blue hue to them. Probably something to do with the cold - but you never know. The purple people been around????
