Have you registered with any of these?

Also what level of CV do they want? I have a short two page version and also a long, detailed ten page version.

The longer one is far more interesting (to me, at least!) but would agents be put off its' legth?

Not yet. I spoke to the London office that deals with any emigration jobs of a couple a few months back and was bascially told to come back when I was within a couple of months of being ready to start work. If Australia is like the UK then contracting work (that I am used to and half expecting to start with) only gets filled within a 2 week window anyway.

In a couple of weeks time when we I have finished work and moved out of the house I will start making contact. I will let you know what I find out.

don't know about Oz, but here in Texas they seemed to want shorter CV's - I was advised by a career consultant to remove any personal info. (because of discrimination) such as age, marital status etc and not to put in too much "padding"

another thing I found (to my cost, initially) was you should "tone down" your CV a bit, in terms of your skills and experience - I found I was being told too often that I was "over-qualified" for the positions I was applying for ... remember you are trying to get a foot on the ladder and you may be better off in the long run setting your sights a little lower than you would in your home country - I started off over here with a much lower position and salary than I was used to, but it's a very useful way of getting to know your industry and the differences from home ... now, 2 1/2 years later, I am in a position equivalent to where I was in the UK, but with a far better salary ...
