Smells a bit fishyPosted on Tuesday 17 June 2008 at 06:06 - Post CommentThe weather this weekend just gone was unseasonably warm, with the Christchurch masses out and about in shorts and t-shirts. For us Saturday was a bit of a write off as we were struggling from the effects off too much booze and too little sleep following T's Prenzel party which went very well. We caught up with lots of friends and had an all round good time, so mission successful on that score. That evening we watched the rugby (England vs the AB's in Auckland) and saw our boys get tonked, however I reckon it'll be a different matter this coming Saturday and we will all be going to the match to voice our support. Little do the ChCh masses know, the Wiz'n'Ton massiv will be making a ruckas from their seats - keep an eye out for us!
Anywhoo - Sunday T was off to Orana Park to do her volunteer bit, so I was left at home wondering what to fill my time with. Maybe tackle the pile of ironing? Possibly finish painting the stud wall I put in 2 months ago? Have a bash at the washing up? Wow - the options were just so overwhelmingly inviting! I decided to put them all on the back burner, and get out in the glorious weather. So I grabbed my rods and headed off to Sumner.
On arrival the sea was flat calm and there was no wind, but as the god of weather seems to have a thing against me it decided that wouldn't do at all, so invited the wind along to the party. A strong nor'wester blew up and left me battling to control my fishing gear but I persevered and was rewarded with a decent size spotty shark. 'Niiiice' I thought and so carried on. Nothing much else happened though, and I was getting a bit cheesed and thinking of heading home when a big rattle on my smaller rod resulted in a bit of a tussle with this bad boy:
It's a big fat red cod, and after it was admired by everyone I knocked it on the head and with the hunter/ gatherer in me beaming with satisfaction, I ate it for tea on Monday. Chuffed? You betcha! I finished up with another couple of spotties, so all in all a good couple of hours.
To add to the recent fun'n'frolics, this coming Friday is K & C's housewarming party, Sat is the rugby match, and then on Sunday I'm off for a free day's skiing for the day with my mate Hayden as he's slipped me into a school 'fact finding' group as a tag-along.
You know, it's a hard life - but someone's got to do the hard yards!
