Pass me the towel

I have just got our of my paddling pool, and need to dry off.

After all that wallowing, I feel a whole lot better.  Nothing like letting it all hang out for a while, eh?  Since the last post, not a massive amount has changed but just having talked about it makes me feel better.

It sounds daft, but I now realise that keeping an upbeat 'everything's great' view on things has seemed to mean that I then feel that I can't talk about the bad bits as it makes it look like we've made the wrong decision in emmigrating.  Thinking about it though, that's just silly, as who can expect everything to be roses from day 1 onwards - it just ain't gonna happen.  Recognising the bad times and talking them through certainly seems to be a big help.

On reading the last post, my Dad dropped me an email in which he quoted this blog back to me when I wrote about some problem being 'just anothe pothole in the motorway of life', and that these last few days have been just that.  Maybe a couple of potholes together, but nothing insurmountable.

What also helped was a really good two hour chat on the phone with my sister late on Friday evening.  It was so good to chat through all the things that we were finding challenging in our lives, and to catch up with how her husband and girls were doing.  Cheers for that sis - just what I needed!

Friday itself was a good end to the week.  I met my old work mates Steve and Shannon, and it was good to see them again and hear about how it's all going in their worlds.  Then I had a few beers, and finally met up with T, who was finishingoff her work drinks with some friends.  It was then time to head back home for an early night as on Sat we were heading off to friends house as we had been invited to their 'Pre Christmas Family Get Together' - how nice is that?!  It was meant to be an afternoon BBQ, but a phone call at 7.30am (!!!!!) saw me trying to understand Hayden as he was telling me that it was in fact a morning affair and we had to be there for 9!  We just abot managed to crawl out of bed and make ourselves presentable before heading off to pick up Hayden and head out to the do.  It took a while starting, but after an hour or two of small talk we started to feel a lot more comfortable, and after breakfast and a tour of the small-holding (on which they have a pig - it used to be pigs, but we were eating one of them for breakfast!!! - and sheep etc) we settled down to a really good chat.  And all of a sudden it was 3pm!  We'd had such a good time we had lost track entirely of how late it was.

Still, there were chores to be done, se we had to head off home to do - joy of joys - the washing.  Today is Sunday, and we have had a really productive day.  The washing is all dried and sorted, we have put up a load of shelves, mirrors and pictures, and the place all of a sudden feels a lot more like home.

There's still a fair bit to do, but house wise I really feel that we are about to crest the hill.  Just hope the same is true for our immigration situation and with regards to a job for T.

Fingers crossed!
