Oh bother.Posted on Tuesday 25 September 2007 at 09:54 - Post Comment
Looks like I may well have left things a little on the tight side to get our UK police checks done, in time to get our visa applications into NZ Immigration here in ChCh, in time for them to be processed before our current working holiday visas expire. Confused? Me too!
After the whole expense and palava of going through an Emigration Agent (in our case The Emigration Group) we are now pursuing sponsorship by my company under the 'Work to Residency - Talent - Company Sponsorship' under our own steam. This visa means we can both get 2 year visas through me being sponsored, and then apply for residency after that. To get this in, we need to supply two big immigration dept forms, our police checks, proof of our relationship, a chest x-ray and a medical. And that's it! All good there, but the police checks - just now sent to the London Met, take 40 days to do, plus then need to be sent back to us. That puts us at the first week of November. Seeing as our visas expire in mid Jan this seems to be no bad thing, right?
Wrong! Visa turnaround is 2 months, factor in Christmas (when NZ basically shuts down entirely) then it's 3 months - and that's outside our window.
Well, all this thinking is not doing any good, but there it is. The knowledge that I could have done this 3 months ago is not helping me much either. Ah well, it's just a matter of strapping in for the next ride on the migration rollercoaster!
Just to add to the funs and games, our UK property manager has been in touch to say that the kitchen ceiling of the house there has fallen in! Well, that's just fantastic news ain't it?! We are now awaiting the report back from the manager about just how bad - and expensive - it's gonna be.
The car has just failed its warrent of fitness (NZ MOT) and will cost up to $400 to fix.
We also just got a 'winding up' bill from Tupperware (which T knocked on the head a month or so ago) of over $400. THEY can whistle. Nothing was ever signed, everything was returned, never getting a cent from me so ner ner ne ner ner to them. (my adult, mature side showing there).
And the icing on the cake? T got her 7th rejection letter today from the permanent jobs she's been applying to. Bollocks.
On the brighter side (as there is ALWAYS a nice and shiny bright side if you look hard enough) Spring is here, as I am sure I mentioned before. Also, daylight savings ends soon, meaning we get into longer days and will be able to get out loads more on the weekday evenings which will be great. In addition, work still goes great for both of us, and the house settlement date draws nearer too. We are arranging a house warming/ halloween party for the end of October, and following the relative success of the art stall on Sat, T and Gail are now going to do a full on stall at the Riccarton Raceway Sunday market. How cool is that?!
See - told you it wasn't all bad
And the final good thing? We've just had a big fat curry to cheer ourselves up - yum!
