That was the week that was

Saturday morning here, and all is well.  Another good week over, and a lively weekend awaits us.  On Wednesday the boss took me and my 2 team mates out for a 'congrats on beating targets' meal which was really good. We went to Indochine, a little place just off Columbo Street and the food was absoluely fantastic.  Service apalling though, and the boss was not impressed by that.  Steve and I went on afterwards to the Casino to have a few more beers, and ended up getting plastered.  Thursday was meant to be a full on 'Marketing Blitz' at work, but we were so hung over that I barely managed to speak to 3 clients before lunch!  Not a great Team Leader impression, but never mind eh?  By lunchtime I was sat out in the sunshine at the cafe around the corner, interviewing a guy we may well make an offer of employment too.  He's a ginger Scouser, and is great fun to chat with.  If the refs come back OK, I reckon he'll make a great addition to the team, and that'll be one down and one to go.

As a result of Wednesday night's shennanigans, Thursday evening was a write off as I was asleep by 9pm.  T was not amused - and rightly so.  I don't remember day long hangovers from when I was younger - what's that all about?!

Friday was Steve's last day at work, but even so we were still flat out busy.  It's sad to see him go as he's a great guy and a real lively person to work with - he'll do well at the new office in Welly and we wish him and Cat (his missus) all the best.  Here's a pic of the Select Industrial team that was, and is no more:

So, we went out for leaving drinks last night, and had a really good time.  We started at the Tap Rooms as they are close to work, then went to His Lordships Lane and visited Fat Eddies & The Fish and Chip Shop, in that order.  His Lordships Lane is a recently completed alley way type affair, with little boutiques mixed in with some really nice bars and pubs.  It looks a bit like this:

It's all twinkly lights, outdoor heaters, and has a great vibe.  It gets a thunbs up from all of us.  After this we went to Poplar Lane, and a really cute German bar.  Here we had loads of great lager and beautiful ($40 a bottle!) red wine, some fantastic German garlic sausage hot dogs, and T got to impress the bar staff with her great German vocab.  'ich habe ein lange schlange' is a phrase that will go down in history!   Here's Cat, Steve, T and I looking completely normal:

So, that brings us to the weekend.  It's going to quite a busy one I think, as this morning we are going to start a 'video of ChCh' to send back to Kelly & Carl in the UK, as they hope to be joining us out here at some point next year.  So, today is all around the city, going to the beach, the port hills etc.  Tomorrow we'll go out to Rolleston and show them their land, and the houses that are built there etc.

This afternoon I am going to Steve's to buy his bike off him and relieve him of any crap that they won't be taking to Welly, whilst  T is getting her hair done.  After which, we'll be heading up to Rangiora to see some friends made from the BE forum, and to meet some new forum folks who have helped us out in the past.

In other, VERY EXCITING news, we want everyone to keep their fingers, toes and everything else crossed as T has been INVITED to an interview for a contract teaching position!!!!  She didnt even apply for it.  The agency she gets occasional work from put her forward, and the job is only out where we have bought our section!  You never know, it may all come right for us after all.  The interview is next Friday, and T is one of 4, so the odds are fair enough.  Here's hoping on that score.

But that's not all - oh no!  T has put in her application at another school for a 6 month contract role, (the one the school encouraged her to apply for) and that closed yesterday.  Shortlisting is next week, so if all goes well and her ninja-turbo application (which the deputy  even took the time to look over and gave it the thumbs up)  does the business, then she may well have not one but TWO interviews!  So, some very exciting days to come.  We are trying desperately hard not to get our hopes up to avoid massive dissapointment, but that is hard enough in itself.  Oh please please please PLEASE pick my fantastic wife to teach a long term contract!

The final good news is that a private boys school has also shown an interest in T, and she has already ot half of next week booked up with work there, so thats another iron in the slow burning fire of teacher job hunting.

The weather here over the past 3 days has been stunning.  Every day has seen a cool start but that has swiftly changed to bright sunshine and temperatures around 17 degrees C!  And it's the UK equivalent of January.  I was sat out in the sun yesterday in a T shirt, catching the rays and sipping a cold drink, looking around me and thinking 'Yup, we've definately done the right thing moving here'.  The weather is so important to me, and even if it doesn't get any hotter than this throughout the year, I won't care cos it s flippin' lovely.  The sun is already out this morning, and it's going to be another good one.

Despite all this sun, the Sigma of Much Beauty has somehow shipped in a load of water, and the passenger side carpets are soaking.  Loads of T's schoolbooks now have mould colonies on them - not a good look.  T and I have made a pact, that despite her beauty once a long term contract is secure the Sigma is out on her ear and we are getting something a little more reliable and a little less 'interesting'.

Oscar has eally settled down after the bollock chop, and has turned into the most lovable cat yet.  He's sat here now on my lap whilst I type this, and seems to love all the attention he gets.  Ahhhh, ain't he sweet:

So, that's all for now.  Have a great weekend!

Kiwi observation of the day:  The traffic lights go straight from red to green here - no amber in between.  So, a traffic light cycle is:  Green to amber to red to green.  It makes for great 'traffic light Grand Prix' opportunities - no wonder there are so many boy racers here!  The Sarfend Cruise Massiv would love it, so whatever you do, shhhhhh.... don't tell them.
