A different tack(tic)Posted on Wednesday 13 June 2007 at 10:40 - Post Comment
So, we've deliberated, masticated and cogitated, and have come to the conclusion that this whole reliance on Primary Teaching as a way to residency is by no means a sure fire winner. So, even though this avenue will still be actively pursued, it is time to embrace a plan B.
A quick phone call to our emigration agent last night has revealed that if I go through my work and take up their offer of 'Work to Residency' visa sponsorship, then we could have residency within 2 years. In the meantime, I will have a long-term valid work visa, and as Toni is my wife then she will also be granted an open work visa with no work restrictions. Sweet! This means that a) All the pressure on T for a 12 month + teaching contract is removed so she can relax a bit on that, b) That she can therefore look for short-term, more atainable teaching contracts, and c) If she wishes, then T can apply for any other roles that come along which are not teaching - and maybe look at a new career or whatever.
A win-win situation if ever I saw one!
So, needless to say I'll be trying to get this up and running at work as soon as possible.
Otherwise, not much else to report. T has 2 days of supply this week so far which is great news. Plus, we got a rejection note from Ashburton today which contained the nicest letter with a great big 'Thank You' across the top, and a cheque for $30 for 'expenses' stapled to it. How nice is that?! It is a lovely gesture, and really showed that they appreciated the effort put in on T's part to the application process. Would you get that in the UK...? We think not.
T's been invited to a pole and lap-dancing 'seminar' by a friend here, which I think she'll be going along to for a giggle. Believe me, it all sounds good to her husband too! Wonder if she'll be getting 'home work'?
I had a day of training at work which was really helpful. Even though I've been in recruitment for over 6 years (blimey, has it been that long?!) you still don't stop learning new things. The training offered by my company is also really helpful stuff, and not that training that you yawn through and forget straight away. Loads of stuff for me to put into practice over the next few weeks and hopefully I'll be reaping the rewards soon.
Ah well, enough for now. Video Ezy's $1 rental day today and we've gone all out (!) and hired a whole bunch to keep us occupied - now then, what shall we watch first...... |
