Back up and running

Yup, we're back online following the wine-on-the-laptop incident, and it seems to be working just fine again.  Phew!  The repair shop got it done in record time, and we're well chuffed.  Insurance covered it no worries, and that's been a real result.  It's great to be back online in the evenings, and catch up with folks in real time rsther than batting email back and forth across the world and its myriad time zones.

So, what's new?  Well apart from the keyboard on this lap top  not too much.  Work asked me last week if I'd be keen on a training course in Wellington and I jumped at it.  Monday saw me winging (that's winging, not whinging - talking of which here's a Kiwi joke for you:  How do you know when a plane full of poms lands?  The whining doesn't stop when they turn the engines off!    I think my day job is safe, don't you?)  my way to Welly, and I did a 2 day seminar on SPIN Selling & Negotiation, which was great.  Was rubbish to leave T, but I really got a lot out of it, and it was also pretty cool to be 'away on business'.

Keeping the home fires burning, T had supply work on both Monday and Tuesday, and the Tuesday school also booked her in for today and Friday so that's another 4 days in the bag.  It really does seem that the teaching thing is gaining momentum for T, and that's really reassuring for us both.  It is great to both be able to chat about our day at work, and T has really found it rewarding to be teaching again.

We managed to go and see Pirates of the Caribbean 3 on Saturday, and it was really good.  The rest of the day was filled shopping, washing and tidying up around the flat so nothing too exciting.  The drift racing on Sunday was good, watching 500 horse power cars going sideways around a track, it was almost like they were dancing.  It's not actually a 'race' as such, as the drivers are scored on 'style' as they go through a scoring area.  They don't half make some smoke though!  We saw some pretty decent cars in the spectators car park too - the Kiwi's really are petrol heads at heart.  Cream of the crop was a twin rotor MAZDA RX7, with the bonnet off to show off the spick and span engine. And all for $5 entry fee - pretty impressive in anyone's book I reckon.

Another bit of good news is that our nephew seems to be slowly getting better, and is responding to treatment and we hope this continues and that he is soon out of hospital.  We are thinking of you all back home, and send our love.

More good news, is that an old bike racing friend of ours who himself has left the UK for pastures new, will soon be joining us here at our new pasture in the South Island!  To say we are a bit chuffed is an understatement - Andy & Christy, cheers for the good news, that is bloody fantastic!  We were looking for reasons to come to Dundin, and make sure you bring the strokers too, right - the race track here is built for 'em!

Oh, and I just ate a Persimmon.  They're soft, very sweet, and without a distinctive 'taste'.  All in all, pretty good!  Will be adding them to the shopping list, that's for sure.
