Clumsy Sod!Posted on Friday 11 May 2007 at 04:19 - Post Comment
No updates from us for a while as on Wednesday night 'clumsy oaf of the year award winner' here managed to spill half a glass of the local vino all over the laptop keyboard.
Oops.
Toni was less than impressed, and whilst the thing still boots up OK and works like it should, the keyboard is buggered with loads of keys not doing as they should. Arses.
Fortunately, the friendly bunch on the Britishexpats.com NZ forum have suggested a few fixes, and it looks like I am in for a busy evening of cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol to get the sticky nastyness out, and hopefully free up the keys/ make them work properly. If that doesn't work, then a replacement keyboard is around $200. That's $200 we don't have, so let's just hope the cotton bud technique does the job!
In other news, we had a couple we have got to know - Tyler and Amber - over last night for dinner. Mexican food - yummy! I made homemade guacamole and salsa and it was blimmin' lovely. Funnily enough they are from California, and I met Tyler when he did some work for me here at Select. We had a really good evening of food and chat, talking about the places we'd been and the different lifestyles we were used to. Amber was fascinated with the Royal family and couldn't believe I'd met the Queen and Prince Phillip! Tyler used to make surf boards in California - how 'The OC' is that?! Anyway, a good evening that cheered us right up.
'Cheered us up from what' I hear you ask? Well, the bad news is that Toni has not had any further teaching shifts this week, so that's a total of 2 in 2 weeks. Hardly going to keep us in beer and marbles. We hope that next week brings a bit of a better crop. However, the GOOD news is that Ton has just arranged her first Tupperware party - YAY! It's with an English lady and Ton has already been to see her to give a run down on how it will all go, along with how to maximise her party attendees - good for lady as people = freebies for her. Good for Ton too, as people = parties, and
Well we hope so anyway, as the long term teaching view looks bleak still, with several jobs being advertised locally but all are demanding 'curriculum experience' which we have learnt to mean 'no newly qualified, or immigrant teachers'. The age old Chicken and Egg situation. No work without experience, no experience without work. We just live in hope that a school head will see Toni in action during a supply shift, and be so impressed that an immediate offer of full time work will be made! Well, we can dream, eh?
The weekend beckons and as yet we have no plans so will just see how things go. Weather is looking good, so maybe a bit of a foray into the countryside around Banks Peninsula is in order.
More when I am either back at work, or have fixed the laptop! Toodlepip.
