To Work or Not to Work...Posted on Monday 7 May 2007 at 09:15 - Post Comment
...that is the question!
I have just discovered that the internet at work allows me to post up on the blog, so I have managed to resist for a whole 40 minutes before getting on here.
Not much news from us really. Toni just now called me to say that she's arrived at her 2nd relief teaching shift, this time at Hammersley Park School. Nerves are high as it is one of the roughest schools in the Christchurch area, and getting out aloive will definately be considered a success! Fingers crossed for you Ton. The actual call was to say 'It's 8 o'clock and there's no-one here!' and then someone just turned up so I look forward to the update later on today.
It's a beautiful day today, a crisp, clear and cold Autumn jobby. Chilly ride into work, but a pleasure at the same time, especially seeing the mist rise off the river in the park and the first of the sun hitting the golden leaves. Very picturesque, and a bit different from the peeing rain last week.
We are just on the cusp of starting proceedings to get this house of ours built. the deposit is nearly ready to be paid - just waiting for the NZ dollar to fall in value a bit as the exchange rate is not great right now and the money is currently in UK Pounds. Also we have to see if the gamble of getting things underway when we: A) don't have more than another 9 months of visa, B) Don't (as yet) have enough income to cover the potential mortgage and C) don't even know if the banks will lend us the money (although have had estimates that it will 'not be a problem') is all risk worth taking.
Looking at all that it seems not, but things aren't always as they seem and people don't get anywhere without taking a few risks now and then. Once we've committed, we will have a target to aim for and will be galvanised to make things work, which can only be a good thing in making our mark here.
It's all fun and games! More later after Toni's day in the depths of Decile 1 hell. |
