What a week!Posted on Saturday 5 May 2007 at 05:22 - Post Comment
Well, so much has happened this week!
I have worked all week at a software company, and it was good as it brought in a little money. It was quite a good job, and i was kept quite busy.
As you know, I did a days supply on Friday, it was at Shirley Primary school, which is a decile 3 school. The decile system rates the school according to the social-ecomic status of the families of the children that attend. 10 is the highest, 1 the lowest. So this school is fairly low on the scale, and i was quite worried to start with, but the phone call the night before explaining that I only had to teach for 2 hours, and I could do what ever I wanted, as the rest of the day would be a video, calmed me down enough to get a good nights sleep.
I felt good the morning of Friday, and really looking forward to being in the classroom again. I planned to use my old faithfull lesson of portrait drawing. What child would not want to spend a few hours doing art? Well, I found nearly a whole class of them!
The day was very different for the children, as I had the year 5's of 3 different classes. A group that was split into 3 classes for a reason. Lots of them did not get on! After registration and assembly, I really struggled to get them to concentrate for more than about 10 mins! So i cut my introduction down, and opted to stop and restart them later. Anyway, I thought the prospect of watcing a DVD would encourage them to behave well, but alas, it was not meant to be. There just were alot of kids who had real problems, so the last thing they care about is listening to a relief teacher! The DVD was also a bit of a struggle as they had to sit still. I kid you not, some children couldn't even watch a whole film, even thought they had an hour break in the middle!
Nevermind, I had the deputys class, and he seemed to think I did alright, so I will wait and see if they call again. I didn't feel it was my finest hour, but, with those kids its hard to believe any supply would have a great day. After school Andy and I went out to Gary and Justine's land in Rollestone as their roof was being put on thier house. They had a few friends over for a drink. It was really nice to catch up with them and see the progress of their house. Unfortunately their roof was delayed, but they have been asured it will be on soon.
It was a chilly evening, but the sunset was amazing
This is the view from the their land, and ours is just over the field to the left!
In order to celebrate the hopeful start of my teaching career, we went out to celebrate. We went to a resturant that is a converted church. It was really lovely, and had a guy playing piano and a lady singing. It was really romantic. We had a lovely meal and both got really drunk! It is so great to be so close to the town as the resturant was only a walk away.
