I wish you a merry christmas, I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!!! I know it's early but I couldn't resist. Hope everyone is getting in to the spirit of the season :) No One Loves a SpammerPosted at 08:23 on Monday 29 November 2010
I've lost count how many people become members of BE, not to become part of our community and make friends, but because they see it as a platform to use to promote their own venture/website/services etc. Let me tell you now, it doesn't work like that. One can't join a community and plaster links to your product/service all over the place. Nor is it "cricket" to pop up in a thread and offer your services or suggest someone rent/buy/use your product/car/house/service …….. etc, etc.
Comments (0) | Permanent Link
Not only does it wind up other members, it does not paint your product/service (etc you get the picture) in a very good light. It actually can have a negative effect and put people off you. So rather than jumping in and getting yourself banned after one spammy post, perhaps you should take on board the following. It's my short, handy dandy, guide on how to use the forum without spamming. Read and digest:- There is a very fine line between contributing, and using the forum to promote oneself. We have many professionals such as Lawyers, Realtors, Business people etc that use BE, but they don't make the mistake of promoting themselves. What they do is build a good reputation for being helpful, and sharing information and advice. So instead of interrupting a thread with an advertising post, and comments like, "If you contact me I can help you" or, "Visit my site for more information" try actually answering a question, or share your tips and experience. The more you help others, the more likely it will be that people will remember you when they have need of your service/product, or recommend you to others. We offer a few ways for you to utilize the forum without spamming. Those options include: Utilizing your forum signature Add your contact details/link to your forum signature, that way every time you post those details will be displayed. Links Section Add your link to our links page (that's a separate registration from our forum registration though) Connections forum A forum for members to make business contact with other British Expats around the world. (You need a minimum of 10 forum posts to post in this forum). So stick to my suggestions above, and read our Site Rules so you are familiar with them then, then we will all get along fine :) And next time you consider trying to "sneak in" a quick promotional post, think about the damage it's going to do to your reputation on BE. Because no one loves a spammer ;) Sue PS. If none of the above will fit your needs then maybe you should consider sponsoring a Vendor forum, or participating in banner advertising. If you email advertising@britishexpats.com they will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Congrats and Member MilestonesPosted at 02:48 on Monday 15 November 2010

As our membership continues to expand it must be quite overwhelming for new members when they start posting. The Welcome Inn has helped alleviate this a bit, but we wanted to see that extended to the different sub/country forums as well, so today we have introduced a new level of members called Concierges.
Comments (1) | Permanent Link
This new group will be responsible for welcoming new members in The Welcome Inn, and site wide, and will help guide newbies as they get used to using the site. Concierges will not have full moderating powers, but will be able to move threads. Please join me in acknowledging our first group of wonderful members who have kindly agreed to become Concierges. If you see them around the forum say hi and give them a pat on the back in thanks. (Or a hug if you are a hugger )France - Ka Ora!
