Well I kind of overdid it last week, went for the tinto big style, I know you're not meant to but did anyway, it's too damn cheap though. Felt sick as a parrot afterwards but still couldn't face going to see a médico to try to explain in a language that I am still not the greatest at, that I had somewhat taken advantage of the local hospitality.

And besides, I've always hated going to the doctors anywhere, and I haven't really gotten round to checking out where I'm meant to go yet, new system and all that. I suppose that I'd better check, later.......

So for a while I'm going to be a good boy, just read some Ortega y Gasset & feel smug about heavy stuff.

Okay maybe the odd cerveza........

Thursday 22 July 2010 - Spanish Healthcare

There seems to be a lot of fuss about British people coming over to Spain and using their EHIC cards to get free treatment. And I mean the hoo ha coming from the Brits when they have been moaning about the Spanish authorities trying to tighten up on the abuse of the system.

The EHIC is only there for emergency treatment, and for people to use it otherwise is just wrong. I am all for people moving to new countries, but when you move abroad you have to try to fit into the new system. Go on get youself a tarjeta de residencia, abide by the local ways, it's not that bad.

Wednesday 30 June 2010 - Spain

Spain is one heck of a place to get used to, I mean it's not like I suppose it would be like if I were off to live in Angola or Laos some place that I know next to nothing about. But still everything is subtly different from things in Scotland.

The hours are very different, the prices are silly, and the pace of life is.... [notice that I didn't even have to mention the climate] different. There is absolutely nothing comparable to the BBC I have noticed, and apart from the 'sport' [fútbol] papers I don't have enough indepth knowledge of the the economic and political nuances to follow the papers.

But it is nice here, but I think it will still take some time before I settle in to the spanish vibe. But I do like the late nights, and like the way things open much later on the continent, especially the bars.
