| I have been reading a few post regarding R J Hoffmans. I must say it has made me nervous as I am starting work for them tomorrow in St Walburg. I met the owner today and he seems a nice guy. However, I take people as I find them and don't appear to have the problems others have run into. I gained my permanent residency in September 09. I have my social security number, health care card, Saskatchewan driver's license etc. All I will say is that there are issues here getting qualifications from England recognised. For example; In England i'm a qualified electrician, I have a B.Eng(hons) in electrical engineering, two post graduates in education and a Masters degree in education. Great I hear you say.... If I want my City & Guilds (electrical) papers recognised I must be prepared to re-do the last year of my apprenticeship before sitting an exam. My degree will only be recognised as an"applied" degree as degree programs in Canda are four year programs. Degree programs in England are three, so i'm a year short. The Masters degree is the same story. Travel is a huge part of the process out in the prairies. I live in St Walburg so am fortunate to have found employment in St Walburg. The only other option is to work in Lloydminster which is an hours drive each way. I did look at going to college for 1 year to get my engineering qualifications recognised. I ran into another roadblock here as the government or any financial institution will not grant me a student loan as you require three years of Canadian tax returns. I obly have 1! All fun and games...... With the economy the way it is, there are positives to be had. I have a job and I can pay the bills. Take care. |
