Going to see a consultant about the operation that will change my life

After much thought and sleep less nights, ive finally plucked up the courage to see a consultant about having a lap band. Now V is earning again and after talking about how i feel he says lets see the man.

Im waiting to have an appointment date confirmed for 2 weeks time(they could see me this Saturday but childcare a problem).

Im going to arrange to have the operation done in August while the kids are in Scotland.

Atlhough i want to have the lap band the surgeon may decide that a bypass is more appropriate in my situation.

There has been a lot of recent research done on the merits of weight loss surgery and recent findings suggest that doing the operation either lap band or bypass is benificial to obese people who are in the >30-35 band, especially those who have metabloic syndrome, which i have.

The Dr ive already spoken to has told me although im under the bmi of 35 threshold i can still have the op. It looks like im pre diabetic and this op will help prevent me developing diabetes type 2.

I know its going to be expensive but my body cant cope with being the weight i am, the aching joints and being out of breath is really getting me down.

I feel both excited and nervous about finally being able to achieve my normal weight for my height.

WEll got to get on with studying ive got an assignment to prepare for

Good Luck Sweetie!

Hi Mandy,

I think if this is what you want and you think it will help go for it girl! You know if I was in UK I would take the boys for you to help out. Why don't you ask my mam she might help?

I really hope things sort themselves out for you, I'm hoping that living in a red hot country is gonna make me sweat loads of my excess weight! Although, I'm also gonna go to the gym more next year too so that should help.

You take care of yourself and I will see you when I'm back in UK start of August! Gonna be organising some BBQ or meet when I'm back and before I head out to RAK. I'm meant to be flying around 15th August so will only be back a short time.

Anyway GTG. Take Care!
Love
Melissa

You are correct on the diabetic issue. A wonderful plus for the surgery. Have several friends that have had the bypass done here in the States and all with amazing results. However, you still have to watch your eating habits. One of the four has gained back almost as much as she has lost, unfortunately, while her husband has remained 120 lighter and looking great. Another friend that I reconnect with recently always had a weight problem and had it done almost 18 months ago. Is now down to a size 6 and had surgery to remove the excess skin. She eats like a bird though. Will you need counseling first to see if you fit the profile for surgery?

Wishing you the best

The Dr, ive spoken to had never mentioned having a psychological assessment. Luckily i dont fall in to the catetgory of eating disorders, ie i eat for comfort or just eat none stop. My problem stems from the fact no matter how healthy i eat or how much exercise i was doing my body just wont burn the calories up. so no amount of dieting and exercise is going to help me lose weight. So my last option is to have an operation that will prevent me from taking in too many calories, while with a smaller stomach feel fuller.
I see the surgeon next Saturday and i shall write a blog on what happens
