This last week I got a couple of new items for  two of my cars ( any women readers have now completely lost interest in this blog update) . I finally got a GPS for finding my way around and saving time , at least that's how I rationalized it to myself.

I went for the Magellan roadmate 700 since I got an open box item for 50% off at the local Circuit City. I managed to talk the salesman into marking it down from nearly $600 to $300 since it was open for display purposes. A $10 suction cup arm off the internet and it is now mounted in my  company car. I have already programmed it with a number of addresses I go to frequently on business. The Roadmate 700 has the option of a male or female voice. I went with the female voice, she is very  monotone, laid back and relaxing as she calmly issues instructions on which way to turn, exit etc..................... unlike a real female who wouldn't have a clue and would be giving confusing instructions in a shrill voice while pointing through the windscreen in several different directions. I have to think of a name for her now.

I also got a new carburetor for my Jaguar XJ6L, it's a 600 cfu Edelbrock Perfomer 1406. I previously had a Quadra jet which I have paid to have rebuilt twice to no avail so I finally decided to have a new one installed.

It is so difficult to find an honest and good mechanic in LA, after paying the guy and driving the car home I have discovered the carburetor is racing too high, anywhere between 1000 - 1500 RPM which means the car wants to lurch forward without me even putting my foot on the gas, it also diesels( runs on) when you turn the ignition off.

This is highly annoying after paying to have the carb installed and presumably adjusted. I have tried adjusting the idle and mixture screws however the car either races or dies when turned down too low. I understand that the electric choke may have something to do with this from what I could glean from the internet, so it's back to the dumbass mechanic again tomorrow.

Two rebuilds and a new carb installed and it's still isn't right!!!!!! As you were ladies.............
