Saturday, January 21, 2006 - A true coward

About 10 years ago I was standing in a pub in Santa Monica and a guy who I didn't know attacked me and smashed  me over the head with a pint beer glass, 3 inches lower and he would probably have taken my eye out.

A year later I seen the same guy in another British pub and got my revenge by punching his lights out when he returned from a trip to the bathroom.

Today I was shopping in Trader Joe's, my 2 year old was in the shopping cart and we had a cart full of groceries. I spotted a guy coming towards me and recognized him as my assailant from 10 years ago. I was 90% sure it was him, but not completely sure as I did'nt know him and some considerable time had passed along with the aging process. I noticed he stared straight ahead looking uncomfortabl and nervous, avoiding any eye contact. After a few minutes considering my options, which in my mind's eye varied  from just marching up to him and punching him or smashing him over the head with a bottle of beer, I decided this would not be a good idea in a crowded grocery store on a Saturday afternoon in front of my 2 year old son.

I was not sure if it was even him.and I decided I would ask him. I walked up to him and asked if he was English, sure enough he replied he was in an English accent, which confirmed his identity. I asked if he remembered me as someone he glassed and informed him in no uncertain terms that if we were not in a store with my son I would have flattened him.

The coward showed his true colors and claimed he was visiting his sister, did not even live in LA and denied it was he and then apologized( still maintaining it was a case of mistaken identity). After our conversation I pondered putting James in his car seat and waiting outside the store for him. I decided I did not need to be arrested for assault today, with a new job and 2 baby sons.

Still thinking about it, as to me it is the ultimate cowardly act to maliciously glass someone in the face with a beer glass?!?!
