Saturday, January 14, 2006 - Sunshine Desserts - The First two weeks

Just finished my first two weeks at my new job, outside sales for the American division of  a large British corporation. I'm trying to stay positive but I can't say I'm too impressed so far.

The reasons for this are the catalog of errors that have surrounded my first two weeks including;

I was promised some training in company products and procedures however I have basically been left to my own devices and can see I will have to be very  self-motivated to succeed at this company.

The guy that is supposed to be training me took a large account in my territory that should belong to me, when I asked him about it he came up with a litany of excuses,  none of which seem valid. He has a lot of seniority, I am the 'new kid on the block' so it seems I will have to swallow the loss, which basically amounts to picking my pocket.

My boss( who I have not seen for 2 months due to all the paperwork involved in the hiring process) introduced me as someone else in the first company meeting, much to his embarressment.

The company car I was promised is 2 weeks late and counting - they've only had 2 months to get their act together since I accepted the job.

My business cards were printed incorrectly and have to be re-done, which will take another 7 -10 days.

On a more positive note I did do an advanced driving course which was fun and I passed, along with some very freindly and funny Hispanic ladies and the trainer from corporate HQ. I have a phone that works.

We will see if they manage to direct debit my pay check to the correct account? No sight or mention of  the $5000 signing bonus I was promised so far either.

Hopefully the various mistakes and slow reaction of the company are just some initial hiccups in the honeymoon period?!?!
