Wednesday, December 28, 2005 - For all you after Christmas fat bastards

I watched Frontline on Public Television last night, Frontline is one of the few documentarys that is worth watching in the US.

Following Christmas and the New Year celebrations in this country the TV will be filled with an explosion of advertisements for gyms, and diet companies such as Jenny  Craig, Weight Watchers and various others hoping to cash in on the guilt many Americans have after having overindulged over the holiday period. As a pre-emptive strike thye subject matter was the USA's $40 Billion diet and health industry;

The show is well worth watching, and can be seen on-line before you shell out more money on getting fit after the mountain of food and booze consumed over the last month or so;

Some of the things that stunned me were the expose of so called ' low fat foods', the foods were broken down and found to have as much calories if not more than the regular fat ones they were replacing as a healthy alternative. What the food companies were found to be doing was removing the sometimes healthy fat and replacing it with other carbohydrates (mostly sugar).

Having 2 young kids the other fact was the huge rise in childhood obesity and even the start of heart disease in 12 - 14  year olds.

Many of the facts were common sense but did contain some good tips such as eat more nuts, which are healthy fat. And buy yourself a pedometer with the goal of trying to maintain 10,000 walking steps per day

Of course it's kind of ironic that I am posting this information on a site where most people that read this sit on their fat arses all day typing.............. whilst probably snacking.
