Wednesday, October 26, 2005 - That'll get you going

Last night I spent about 2 hours ' Pimping my boy's ride', we bought our son a tricycle for his birthday earlier this month but of course the stock tricycle was not good enough so I wheeled him to the store and installed a bell, a horn and a red light that flashes or is on constantly. This morning we took James on his tricycle and went to the farmers market which is held twice a week a few streets from where we live in the central pedestrian section of our town.

When I was working I used to drive by the farmers market which was just starting and think of my day ahead cooped up in an office and how I wished I could take the day off to walk around the market, of course now I can go every week but do not.

This morning was overcast and somewhat cool, it was pleasant to stroll through the market, the people that man the stalls are generally very different to usual Santa Monica residents, with a more weather-beaten down home feel to them, probably because they are farmers or family members of farmers that drive into the area just for the day in order to sell their wares. A lot of the fruit and vedgies are organic which goes well in trendy Santa Monica. As you walk through the stalls vendors offer you samples of their peaches, grapes, apples, avacado, and strawberries depending what is in season. There is also flowers, honey, olives, bread, nuts and numerous other things to sample. One lady of middle-eastern origin had samples of home-made huumus, eggplant, olive spread.  Elina and I strolled through the stall and came to the seasonal pumpkin patch in the center of the market, I was surprised by how many people recognized our son from various playgroups and parks and I really felt a sense of community as he played with other local toddlers in the pumpkin patch.

There were also some girls giving out samples of a new multi-grain, high fibre nutrition bar which I accepted and sampled immediately.

After a morning of sampling  numerous  pieces of organic fruit, health bars and partaking of coffee on our stroll, my morning was completed by returning home just in time to make it to the great  ivory porcelain throne......................... bloody hippies.
