Metamorphosis Diario

Monday, September 26, 2005 - Brrrrrrr!!!!!

Took a day off  the gym as I have a sore achilles tendon, unlike the Greek mytholigical hero my problems were caused by playing soccer on a bumpy field yesterday , not quite as heroic as sustaining the injury in the Trojan wars, but at least I should  have recovered next week.

This morning I went to story time at our local Barnes & Noble, or I should say I went with my son as  the stories are for children . Now  today is quite warm in Santa Monica and I was quite hot in jeans, sandals and a cotton T-shirt, however summer is officially over and I noticed quite a few people who are what I call L.A. seasonal slaves to fashion. I notice these people every year in Los Angeles, these seasonal slaves have put away their summer clothes and MUST wear what is dictated to be in vogue by the major fashion stores in  their latest fall and winter window displays and catalogs. As I say it was in the mid  to high 70's in my neighberhood today, and I saw one lady dressed from head to toe in black with a huge black woolen poncho over the top, another lady had a burberry wool blanket draped over her ( I'm sure there must be a fashion term for the blanket). Pretty soon as is usual here I will no doubt see people in heavy scarves gloves and hats, despite the weather still being  what would be considered record British summer temperatures, it happens every year in LA and still amazes me. I mean I've been here 18 years and must be acclimatised by now. These people must be sweating but can't be seen wearing ' last seasons' summer clothes.......... I guess??

RIP Don Adams, better known as Agent 86 from ' Get Smart'. I love that silly show with his nasaly high pitched voice, shoe phone, cone of silence etc. Up there with ' The Munsters' for me as far as old  American comedy is concerned. Don was 82.
