Saturday, April 1, 2006 - Friends come and go...........

.................. especially if you live in Los Angeles.

Having been here 19 years this year that is really one of my biggest complaints.

 Elina and I have made many friends over the years however they always seem to be just passing through Los Angeles or move on and  eventually settle somewhere else.

 Today we went to a going away party/get together for some friends we made after the birth of out first son James. Elina got to know Jo at the Mommy and me play group at our local YMCA.

Jo and her husband are both from the UK, he works for a large global games software company, after 2 years in LA they are being relocating to Switzerland by the company he works for, James has known their daughter Jen since before they could both walk and it's a shame the childhood friendship will be cut short.

 To compound the matter we have more friends leaving next month, Syriana like Elina is from Finland, she is married to an American that works for a US Govt agency, they are relocating to Niger for his work. We took James to be Syriana's house the morning our second son was born and are quite close friends. Again we will be sorry to see them go.

We now have more friends and aquantancies all over the world that we originally  met in LA, than we have remaining in the city. Some are in other US states such as New York, New Orleans and Oregon, some went back to the UK, Ireland and other parts of Europe, some even went as far away as Australia. We are still in touch with many and have lost touch with a few over the years.

Why is it that no-one we know stays in LA?
