Tuesday, September 6, 2005 - Working is bad for your health

So I lost my job 4 months ago, still feeling bitter as I grew the business 40% in 5 years, went above and beyond the call of duty by missing Thanksgivings, a few holidays and nearly missing the birth of my son while I was on a business trip to Sweden. Much to the relief of my partner Elina  I did make it back with only 2 days to spare, since he decided to enter the world a month early.............. but I digress.

I have been working out at the gym 4 to 5 times a week and am feeling much fitter, I'm sweating less on the cardio machines, adding more weight to the bench press ansd not to mention my face is a lesser shade of purple when I am done. I got to thinking today that for most of us, especially in office and ' desk jockey' jobs, that work is actually bad for your health?!?!

When I worked my day consisted of  going down 2 flights of stairs, sitting in a car to drive to the office, reading e-mails, talking on the phone and shuffling papers........... the heaviest piece of metal I lifted was a paper clip. My pants felt constantly tight, and there was  the constant  danger of me taking a co-workers eye out with the pent-up pressure of the button on my waist band. Then there was the International travel , constant business lunches and dinners consisting of French, Italian and English pub food, washed down with lashings of alchohol at the companies expense. I was a walking time bomb.

So my advice to you is  to get fired today, your bank manager might not thank you, but your heart will.
