Kuwait to France.

And we are here (at last)

Well after getting the dogs shipped out of Kuwait, without any real problems we moved on to the airport for our own flight which was supposed to be the one immediately after the one the dogs caught.

Then we found out that the airport at Dubai had been closed due to zero visibility, FOG had closed ALL flights in and out, so of course our flight was cancelled.

This of course then starts the worry factor to increase, there we were sitting in Kuwait hoping and waiting for Emirates Airline to get us booked onto another flight out, it turns out the next available flight would get us into Dubai after our connection to France had left...!!!

Then of course we were worried about the dogs, they had safely arrived in Dubai before us, what do we do, should we ask Emirates to hold them in Dubai until we catch them up as we were supposed to be catching the later Dubai-Paris flight.

Oh no, that won't work because it gets into Paris after the airport vets had closed for the day so we would not be able to get the dogs cleared through Customs, so they HAD to go on the originally scheduled flight.

They safely arrived at Charles de Gaulle ariport 7 hours ahead of our arrival, the agents we had selected Goldenway International Pets arranged for their immediate Customs clearance and to hold them pending our arrival.

Anyway we arrived at Dubai from Kuwait only 45 minutes before our Paris flight was due to depart, which of course meant that we had officially missed our Paris connection, but after explaining that the dogs had already flown on ahead of us, Emirates relented and allowed us to board the flight albeit without any luggage, there simply was not time to get it of our inbound flight and transfered onto the Paris one.

So here we are in France, we've got the dogs, we're here and we expect our luggage to arrive in around 48 hours, fun hey...?

But the most important thing is that we're here, our dogs are here and are well so nothing else really matters in the scheme of things.

We are all packed up...

Latest Update.

At last all of our belongings have started their merry way from Kuwait to France, the packers took two and a half days to complete all their work and then stuffing into the shipping container.

Can't believe that it has taken so long for the last few days of our life in Kuwait to come to its finale, we're jumping on a jet plane in just 7 days time and our dogs are of course coming along with us. You wouldn't believe the hoops you have to jump through to get the necessary permissions to export them from Kuwait, and then of course there is all the additional documentation to get them entry into France.

So here we are sitting in our empty Kuwait residence with a couple of chairs and a bed that we're leaving behind, pretty basic life it is.

The days are being counted down by the hour...

Whoop Di Doo, a Ford Explorer for you...

Oh Yeah

Just managed to sell the Ford Explorer, one less problem for us to worry about before we get to bail out of here.

The other items have just been reduced on the 'Classifieds' section, the ads are just being re-verified by the site's operators but should be online soon and can be viewed here...

If they don't appear when you click, give them a little while and try again later, when an ad is amended it has to go through the peer review system so might take a bit of time.

One of the others posting in the France forum came up with a great idea...

A map showing other members locations.

Clike HERE to view full-size. Use the +/- icons to zoom in, or choose one of the members listed to the right of the map.

We are coming to France

17:16, Wednesday 2 January 2008 .. Posted in Diary .. 0 comments .. Link

Hi everyone.

At the moment I'm currently residing in sunny Kuwait, have been here now for more that 5 years. Doing the usual expat bit, working, getting paid, and NOT giving any away in taxation...

But now it's time for us to move, we're going to settle into our new home in a tiny hamlet called Chez Moreau which is near to L'Isle Jourdain, Vienne. Hoping/expecting to move there in mid-February.

This blog is (hopefully) going to be a diary of the move, property is already purchased and waiting for us to come over to our new life.

I'll be bringing with me my good wife and our three dogs, who believe me will go nuts when they get there, they've not seen much 'grass' before only desert sands, so they should have a great time.

At the moment we're looking into purchasing a car when we get there and have heard through the British Expats forum that a good option is to buy a LHD car from the dealers in the UK, seems that the prices are quite good as it is difficult for them to sell, yea... more bang for my bucks.

Articles for sale are now in the Classifieds section

It's always difficult to know exactly what to take with you when you leave a country for good, especially when it's going to be travelling some 2000+ miles by sea.

So the following items have been put up for sale, these are all in Kuwait so don't expect me to offer to ship anywhere. However there may be space in our container which we will ship to France, so if they don't go here maybe we'll offer them again when we get to our new place.

1996 Ford Explorer (Limited Edition) Now Sold

Exercise Stepper

Cross Country Skier

Recumbent Exercise Bike

Rowing Machine

Corner Storage Unit with matching Bar/Counter

Dining Table with chairs and matching Display Cabinet

Feel free to peruse these, if you're in Kuwait I'd be happy to sell them to you, if it's something that you'd really like in France, drop me a line and we'll see if we can bring them with us (that is anything except the car which won't be coming).
