Our recce trip to New Zealand Jan 07
This is Charlie's diary that I have copied out from our trip to North Island 2007.
No animals where hurt during this visit (well a rat got shot but I think it lived
) but a few Kiwi's where miffed
Wednesday Jan 3rd
We have now arrived in Singapore (Changi).
The flight was great except a girl who was about 10 sat next to us and threw up all over the seats
Jack is in techno heaven here in this airport. There's Xbox 360's and free Internet consoles all over the place and loads of gadget shops.
We have just had dinner - noodles. It cost about £3 each including a drink.
I have just been beaten up by a one legged local guy. I had a 30 min massage. It was fantastic. It cost $35 about £10. I had my head, neck, back and arms done.
It is very hot here. Its over 30 degrees and incredibly humid. Jack went out onto the roof top garden and melted.
There are also 2 free cinemas and the shops are fantastic. I have just been into the Gucci and Prada shops looking at bags - if only.
Jack is checking out a HD camera. Costs about £10,000. Bless he looks like a boy with his nosed pressed up against the glass. How long can you spend looking at a camera? Sad git.

January visit
I booked a flight, hire car and arranged campsites in Whangarei and Tauranga for a 16 day visit in January for myself
Then my mother changed her mind and will now look after the kids so that my wife can now come with me (that will be a first
).
So I had to cancel my flight (fully booked) and re-book a different flight for the 2 of us on 2nd January. I had to call the campsites and give them the bad news that my wife will now be travelling with me. They took it well and have promised to make room for her.

Feeling crap
For the last couple of days I have been feeling utter crap
I know that the decision to go to New Zealand is right and for the betterment of my family but I cannot stop feeling crap.
My parents who I am very close to are not being supportive. I cannot really blame them. Afterall I going to be taking their grankids to the otherside of the World.
I keep swinging from this is absolutely the best thing for my kids to what am I doing.
Suppose everyone goes through this and you have to just get over it. But what a crappie feeling. 37 year old bloke as well

The begining of a New Hope
Well after 4 years of will we/wont we toture we are now, I think at a stage in our lifes where we want to leave these fair shores for an adventure that will hopefully change ours and our kids lifes.
Without slagging off Britain too much we are fed up with the way in which our society is heading. Taxes, crime, immigration (oh the irony
) ect. and do not see a bright future for our kids here.
Deluded maybe but we feel we have to give it a go and will enjoy the adventure whatever.
New Zealand even though neither of us have visit appears to be our Nivarna. We will hopefully be making a short visit in January to do a recce and get a feel for the place.
