Catch the train and then the free bus (cats they are called here) to the office. Plenty of time so have a flat white (coffee) and relax before I start the day. Arrive 8.00am. Quick meeting to discuss our new office staff - then straight on to finishing reports from yesterdays interviews. 5 interviews, two by phone, one in Bangladesh and one in Uk. Lady phones, just arrived from SA and wants to know her options. Great to help. Urgent phone call from company who can't find a Maintenance Supervisor. Have a laugh at the cultural differences I am still finding, we all speak english but a SNAG list to me is something that is done for things wrong in a new home, but a SNAG here in AUS is a sausage!!! Anyway they are called Maintenance Supervisors here.
Had my lunch on a park seat in the sunshine, even if it was next to a main road. Spend the afternoon ringing clients and talked to another company who is desperate to find an engineer this time. We have two really good ones, both overseas, but hopefully should be able to place candidate in a company where they will be happy. Our company is very pernickety about trying to ensure that people are placed in the right companies, so that hopefully it all works out for both and everyone is happy. Last minute phone call - can we help with a Civil Engineer? Well we don't do doctors but we do do engineers!! Met a fantastic man. He offerred me a seat in a crowded train. He has not long started new job - been in sales for years and had bank notes as a hobby, he now is selling bank notes and coins. We found out that we were both into music, he was in a jazz band years ago as a base player and I am in a band, part time these days.
Well what a week - desperate call for an Accountant 4.45pm Friday - glad we decided to give the regular Friday afternoon social a miss. It's very interesting, meeting people from all walks of life and trying to find them a job in a company that is just right for them.
Gigging tonight - Mothers Day D & D, hopefully won't be back very late, I'll be knacked getting up early in the morning.
