Hello,

I'm new so please be gentle

My family and I are travelling to Auckland via Sydney.  We would like to leave Sydney airport as we have a 6 hour stop.  We have electronic visas.  I've spoken to our airline Qantas and they informed me that in order to leave the airport and return even one hour later will cost us £55.20 per person as an entrance tax. 

Our bags will leave the UK to Sydney flight and transfer onto the Auckland flight so we only have hand baggage.  This is not the problem but the excessive cost to leave a terminal building and then come back in after a short siteseeing trip.  We would all like to see the Opera house but at over £220 pounds this is crazy.

Can anyone shed some light on this and maybe advise of a way round this cost please?
