Whelbourns in Canada

• Sunday 4 July 2010 - Critters and New Skills

It has taken nearly five years before the nice fluffy animals become 'pain in the @rse, critters". I am fed up with the cute ground hog eating the tops off my Peas and pulling up all the Bean bushes I have planted in the veggie patch. I know the girls are annoyed by the raccoon eating all the bird seed and wrecking the bird feeders

.

The garden is looking great, with Julie's flower beds coming to bloom this year like never before. Her hard work is finally paying off.

Jules has started planning our annual Bonfire Night party already and we originally discussed making it a smaller affair this year. But already it has a new group to be invited (Jules and I joined the St Georges Society of Fredericton).

'

Nov 5th 2010 will be our fifth Canniversary and it seems we have come along way in our new life. We have learnt many things

  • how to dance the Tango.
  • How to use a chainsaw to cut down a tree and get it to land where I want it to and sharpen the blade when it is dull.
  • How to sharpen a variety of other blades.
  • How to snow shoe,
  • How to cook lobster/fiddleheads (the tops of edible ferns)
  • How to drive in the snow and ice.

Work is going well and the New Brunswick Internal Services Agency opened it's doors for business on June 21st. I am the new Director of Project Management . Our new offices are very open plan and a departure for the government of NB. Here is a photo of the dining area in the new office.

I am more than happy with the new office and it's layout, it helps breakdown the barriers that office walls often create.

.

Julie has made another dress and has perfected her dress making skills. I think the last 4 or 5 dresses she has been extremely happy with the end results.

.

The girls have moved Lexie to stables that are only 5 minutes away from home and they are spending alot more time with her. They are happy with life here in New Brunswick.  Kathryn said to me during the week, "in the UK how many 22 year olds have their own place, a car and a horse?" ... good question, and I couldn't answer it.

.

On the whole, the five years have been beneficial to us and we are happier than anytime since arriving (and before for some of us).

Love the garden it reminds me of an English country style one very pretty.

Good to hear the jobs treating you well.

No I don't know many 22 year olds that would have all that she is a very lucky independent young girl and you should be very proud of her. :)

Hi!!!

it's great to hear how well your girls are doing! I'm obvioulsy older, but in the UK, I too had my own car, horse and house. Frankly in this day and age, I count myself lucky as there is no way in the world anyone of that age in the UK could afford all of it. I'm so happy y'all are enjoying life in New Brunswick - I too am loving Vancouver!
