Whelbourns in Canada

• Tuesday 1 April 2008 - Sugar Bush Event Team Photo

Just a photo I promised from the Fredericton Newcomers club visit to Kings Landing and their Sugar Bush Event (Maple Syrup making for non Canadians).

Our newest members are on the far left Sinead and Stuart and if you look down you can just make out their young son Alex.  They arrived on Wednesday, Sinead started work on Friday   Stuart came to our Lunar Rogue pub night on Saturday, and they came as a family to the Sugar Bush event  I think Stuart had the best deal

.

If you want a list of names of the guilty pictured here (and of the photographer) then ask me in a comment

Funny but a day time high of +3c feels warm to us now. :~D weird what you get used to.

The kids had a great time sliding down the hills and snow banks without a sledge, just using their snow suits. Sometime they are almost kamikazi in their almost vertical slides!

• Wednesday 2 April 2008 - maple syrup making

when I was @ school in montreal, we went on a field trip to a place where they made the syrup!! and they then had funnels coming into the snow with the syrup and it would harden and you could make lollies!!!

I have a good memory (I was probably only 4!!)

They packed the snow and then poured boiling syrup in strips along the snow and when it had hardened slightly they put a lolly stick in and twisted it over and over to form a maple syrup lolly.... it tasted like mild bonfire toffee. Very good too

Looks as if you have a pretty good extended family out there! Great photo and a brilliant way to advertise the Newcomers Club

Yes it is.

We had breakfast /brunch at a local cafe and Kathryn was playing with the latest arrival (Alexander) and he was running down and she scooped him up and lifted him high towards the ceiling.

After 3-4 go's the waitresses asked him who is this pointing to Kathryn (expecting to hear some description like Auntie xxx) instead he looked and said "I don't know". We all fell about laughing.
