Whelbourns in Canada

• Sunday 20 January 2008 - All Quiet on the Western / Eastern edge depending where you are looking from

It has been a quiet week in the Whelbourn house.

Tango practice on Sunday, and a lesson on Wednesday. We are starting to look less like complete novices now. I was complimented on my leading capability (not sure why)

.

We had a small snow storm on Monday night Tuesday morning (about 20cm) and another on Friday leaving us with about 5cm snow, followed by rain, so we now have that sloping skating rink on our drive. I must go and spread some sand today.

.

Thursday was Newcomers club night and we had a young architect talk to us about the historical buildings in Fredericton. (not as bad as it sounds).

.

Kathryn is getting ready to fly back to the UK for her break with her boyfriend Chris. We managed to get them some accommadation in Wales using our timeshare allocation for last year. Some how Wales at the end of January doesn't sound that appealing to me. But then I am not young and in love. (I'm old and still in love)

.

I seem to have become an unofficial member of the New Brunswick Population Growth Secretariat. My blog and enteries on the British Expats discussions has triggered people to contact me about emigrating to NB and Fredericton. I am more than happy to help with this because we need more people here and I am just that sort of nice guy . Seriously the population needs to grow and if I can facilitate that in anyway I see it as another way I can give back to the community that has become our new home.

.

Saturday evening (last night) we dined out at Bruno's (sounds formal I know). Bruno's is a relatively expensive restuarant within the Fredericton Delta and to be honest we had a good meal. Luckily as a member of their privilege club I had built up enough points to get upto $200 worth of dining (excluding, drinks / alcohol, tax and tip). The food was excellent and the atomoshpere was more lively than I expected and I suspect in the summer you would have a great view across the river. Dinner for four; soup, seafood entrees, creme brulee speciality, coffee and drinks to $227.  The average price for an entree was about $29. All together with my dining credit we paid $65. I would recommend it, but the drinks are pricey.

.

Today is sunny, blue skies and about -9c. The forecast for tonight is -22c with a windchill of -33c. I'm glad I will be snuggled up in bed for that ..Tomorrow sunny with a high -12c with a windchill of -33c... Bloody hell! I suspect tomorrow will be a bundling up day  . Our house temperature remains about 20c no matter what the weather. We have electric baseboard heaters but supplemented with our woodstove (see photo below), which seems to be able to heat most of downstairs in the house.

Tonight is Tango Practice (I wonder when we are going to learn to pick up a rose with our teeth?).

After writing all that, I think perhaps the week wasn't as quiet as I thought it was?
