Midgefest

No, not another music festival, but the only way I can describe the amazing number of midge's we were surrounded by on our weekend trip up north last week.

We left early on Saturday for the trip and look a leisurely drive up past Loch Lomond to Loch Long and stopped briefly at the Rest and Be Thankful.  I love that particular spot not just forthe jaw droppingly stunning scenery, but because I love the name, it always makes me smile (and thankful lol).

We were meeting up with mates who were camping at old Castle Lachlan but as all our camping gear is on a ship heding south, we stayed in a nearby caravan park.  A nice suprise when we arrived at the campsite was that not only were they pitched next to the castle ruins, they had actually taken residence inside - very posh lol.  Also a surprise was that Lynn and Campbell Scott and their boys Ahren and Brody were there.  The Scotts are old friends who emigrated to Aus a coupel of years ago and they're over just now for a holiday.  Sad news is that Campbell lost his dad very unexpectedly last week, and that kind of took the edge of our happines at seeing them.  Anyway, that aside, the kid all got on great guns which gave us a little breathing space as they took Ynez's torch and explored all the "spooky" dark rooms in the ruins.

As for the midges, well, I can only say one thing...thank goodness for Avon's Skin So Soft.  Millions of the blighters surrounded us, but not one bite (although Mike T did discover a tick lodged into his leg on his return home).

Gotto say, I'm getting either old, or very set in my ways, but I ws sooo glad to get back to the caravan and some home comforts.  I kid you not, that caravan was better than the house we're renting just now!!

The next morning we went back to the castle and the kids went fishing alond the shore.  Mike was winding Ellie up by throwing stones in and getting her escited to try and catch the ripples as if they were some kind of fish.  Poor kid.  There's some videos of that stuff on our you tube page if you fancy a look.
