On Saturday we were invited to Fiona and Euan Caldwell's for a BBQ. We both used to work with Euan and Fiona, and prior to Mike and I getting together, they were really great friends. Sadly, we we've not seen much of them over the past few years which is a shame as they're a great couple, and still good friends. It's sad that its taken us moving to Australia to rekindle that friendship. Anyway, they've got 2 boys Jake and Kyle and the kids all got on like a house on fire. They had also invited Sandy and Elaine Matthews and their wee girl Rachel over (more old friends from Scotam days).
I had planned on taking the car but Fiona produced a bottle of sparkling red and I just HAD to try it. Half a glass later and I was persuaded to leave the car and get a taxi......one hour later and we were staying over night lol.
Mike had a great night talking gadgets with Euan and Sandy and now has a massive/expensive shopping list for when we get to Melbourne. Got to admit though, I did have a peek at Casino Royale on their HD TV and OMG, Daniel Craig on a 42 inch HD screen is quite a sight to be seen :-).
Quite late in the night, I managed to trip down their back step into the garden and landed on my knees. Was pretty sore at the time, but it passed quickly, and we carried on drinking (some of Euan's cider by this time). Mike slept in Jake's Superman bed whilst I shared the spare bed with Becca and Ellie shared with Kyle (two VERY happy bunnies). Next morning I don't know what hurt most-my purple knee, my sore hungover head or my swollen purple ankle. I could hardly walk but I knew I had to get downstairs and get some water. What a plonker eh? I've been hobbling ever since. It's feeling a bit better today, but thank goodness it's the bank holiday and Mike's home so I'm able to keep off my ankle as much as possible.
We're off to test drive a Mazda this afternoon in Edinburgh. We've narrowed down our list of desired cars. And we've finally removed the 4WD from the list. As much as we like them, we just can't justify the additional costs.
