bit and piecesPosted on Thu 26 April 2007 at 10:13Things I keep forgetting to tell you: Melissa got on very well at the stables - she now spends every Saturday up there helping out all day. I think it probably works out that she earns a dollar an hour (not that she ever sees any money, just riding in lieu). But like a large proportion of little girls, her mother and grandmother (Steve's mum) before her, she is in pony heaven. Well done that girl!
When I was coming home from work following a late shift a couple of weeks ago, there was a house stuck in the middle of the road! Not as stupid as it sounds as apparently house moving is quite common here. Bear in mind the type of houses built here are often very similar to a terrapin hut and you have the picture. They have firms that specialise in house moving. They usually have a route planner who checks for things like tight bends and narrow traffic lights. Turns out this one didn't check that closely as the house got stuck at the lights outside the hospital. A truly bizarre sight I can tell you. I bet they weren't late for any hospital appointments the next day though!
We have our first guests booked in! Yippeeee! Steve's Mum and stepfather Frank are coming to visit over Xmas and New year (14th Dec - 5th Jan). This doesn't mean that no-one else is welcome then, just might be more of a squeeze. I guess ideally we would prefer everyone spread out a bit so we have time to spend with each set of visitors but the more the merrier perhaps! Further bookings now being taken.
No1 son Shane will be 24 this weekend: HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHANE! I found the band that Shane plays with on t'internet at work the other day and showed him off to my colleagues: they were very impressed. For anyone else who may like a wee look: I am very proud of him, as indeed I am of all of my children. Good grief, I sound like Mother Theresa or summat, 'all my children', like I have a baker's dozen! There - that should embarrass them all nicely - well, that's what mothers are for!
We have kingfishers in the gully. One nearly flew into Steve's head one evening as he stood on the deck. They are similar in colour but a bit bigger. I will have to find out how common they are here as I don't remember seeing one in Britain for some considerable years.
We had Jac (aka Spackster) and Adie come to visit on Anzac Day. For the unitiated - more 'cyber' friends. However, we didn't make them up, they truly do exist......I think.........maybe.....? We spent the day doing bugger all, just talking and laughing and eating and laughing and drinking and laughing......The weather was lovely and it was a great day! Brilliant to meet you finally: let's do it again sometime! Anzac Day is akin to Rememberance Day but always falls on it's due day, not shunted off to a sunday. It is a public holiday. They seem to take a real pride in their heroes and those lost to the wars here. Nice to see the genuine pride and patriotism this engenders.
Scottie kitty went to the vet's today to be neutered. Looking a bit sorry for herself this evening but otherwise none the worse for her day out. Poppy has been right in her face wanting to play as she has been inside all day on her own. They were cutting down trees on the section next door so I wouldn't let her out as the nosey little monkey would probably have climbed the tree to find out what they were doing. There, that'll do for today! |
