Moving day

Posted on Thu 18 January 2007 at 05:42

Well, here it is.

Moving day is upon us.  I have been awake since 5.20am and thought I may as well get up.  So I have already cleaned the shower (and myself) and I am about to move on to the fridge.  The removal men come at 8.30 (apparently) and the house is in utter chaos.  Melissa has gone to sleep over at a friend's house so she has been spared the tension this time round.  We may even go and get her later.  That would be quite funny really - she comes home and we have moved.... There are boxes everywhere and bits and pieces littering all the surfaces.  But you know what?  I don’t really care.  I am sat here in the middle of this mayhem with a big stupid grin on my face because today is the day we move into our very own house. In a contemplative vein, we have come so far in such a short space of time - something I still find surreal and grin to myself about (another 'we live here' moment). This time last year this was all a pipe-dream, something that other people did.  We would never have believed we would be the very proud owners of our own Kiwi home, with our own 1/4 acre and gully.

The last few things will get done and it will all come together – no biggie as they say.  As we are only moving about 1 ½ kms away, if anything gets forgotten we can always come back and get it.  Compared with an RAF march-out, this will be a doddle – it wasn’t overly clean when we took it over so it will actually be handed back cleaner than we found it. The kitchen cupboards have had their sticky back plastic ripped out so they don’t even need to be cleaned.  We got rid of so much clutter prior to coming here that there aren’t half the boxes we have moved before so unpacking shouldn’t be too hard a chore.  In fact, we have managed to get everything in the house into the boxes that our shipping was delivered in, which surprises me as we had accumulated a fair amount before the shipping arrived.

The day has dawned full of promise with a lovely clear sky – I hope it continues in the same manner and that my philosophical frame of mind continues also.  I intend to make time this evening to celebrate with a glass of wine on the veranda as we watch the sun go down. In our very own house.
