sad demise of a dearly loved kitchen appliancePosted on Sat 30 December 2006 at 08:57That’s Christmas out of the way until next year then, all the festive eating, drinking and falling down drunk over until… well….two days time actually! Xmas itself followed the usual pattern in our house. I get everyone up before I go to work so that I can watch the opening of presents, then I bugger off to work and leave them to it. I do very little at work but get paid for the privilege and then come home and fall asleep. Steve slaved over a hot microwave for minutes to produce a stupendous reheated Indian meal that took several attempts to finally finish eating. I had more presents than I anticipated so then felt guilty that I hadn’t bought several for Steve. But he made up for that by buying himself a motorbike. Thank you again for the gifts we have received in the post. Spent hours and more $$$ than I care to think about on the phone the other evening but it was really good to catch up with those of you who were at home. I can’t believe I made myself cry last time I blogged!! I am better now though; I have retail therapied until I squeezed the EFTPOS (debit) card dry… Sales shopping is a bonus here. It is bright and warm and the sales are real sales and there are hardly any queues. The goods are probably overpriced in the first place but knock off 20 –50% and you can’t complain. I bought a Christmas tree that I liked but thought was too expensive before Xmas – now cost $50, also bought a new food processor and health grill….we had a power surge in the Linton house and never bothered to replace either item but I thought if I was going to spend the money anyway, it would be as well now as pay the full price after the sales. Also bought clothes, bedding a new standard and desk lamp and an enormous cool box (chilly bin here). And to top it all off, we didn’t buy a new DVD for region 4 DVD’s, our UK one works here so that saved a bit (just as well really, the amount I have spent!) . Just had a thought and had to tell Steve – we ought to think about buying DIY products now if they are discounted in the sales. Will ponder that at greater length. There is a possibility that the squatters in our new house (I take that back, they still own it but I feel like it is mine now and they should do the decent thing and LEAVE) may get out a few days early, which would make life a bit easier. We would have the opportunity to clean and move bits and pieces over there before the main move. It is in the same suburb so it wouldn’t be too difficult to at least take some of the kitchen stuff over. As anyone who has ever moved house knows, there are more boxes for the kitchen than for anywhere else. Kitchen cupboards are like the Tardis – they just hold copious amount of STUFF but to look at them from the outside you wouldn’t believe you could fit a small meteorite or desert island in eh? Tis all true….. Not happy with the microwave. We offer it a new life, a new beginning in a new country, we pay it's passage over here, get it networking and then the ungrateful little bastard ups and dies on us!! Revenge is sweet however, I have told Steve to dig a hole under the house and bury it!! We had actually bought another one anyway so we weren’t left in the lurch entirely. Best none of the other appliances start thinking along the same lines or I may be faced with a mass grave!! Best trip to the beach so far yesterday. We are already getting into a habit of going to the Mount and really ought to see more of this country but it is lovely there. Melissa got a wet/board/neoprene suit and a body board so had to try them out, which of course entailed taking a friend with her. The water’s too wet without one…..They also went on one of those vertical bungy thingies that you sometimes see in town centres and enjoyed it hugely. Actually, they went on it last they went but I forgot to mention it then! My shell rope is nearly finished - I think it is probably about 40ft long now! I intend to nail it to the back fence when we move - come and see! |
