at the Pub

Posted on Thu 21 December 2006 at 11:33

I walked home from work yesterday after finishing at 4pm – I’m trying not to moan about being chubby but to do something about it.  I've walked home 3 days in a row now and the bloody novelty is wearing off quick I can assure you.   Well, 40 minutes walking  later I was outside the Pub just up the road from our house when…’Oy, what are you doing here?’…Lo and behold, two of my new OT colleagues were on the veranda having a drink having finished work at 4.30pm and driven to the Pub.  All my good intentions went out the window and I joined them for a swift half.  I got in the house 10 minutes later than usual -  when I walked in Steve was beside himself thinking I had been run down.  He was on the verge of phoning my work to see what had happened to me!!  And where was my phone – on top of the fridge recharging!!  I felt like I was 10 years old and being told off!! Later on that evening, Melissa went to sleep over at one of her friend’s house, so having found the Pub, I introduced Steve to it as well.  Another of my colleagues was there so we stayed for a while.  It’s funny though eh?  Don’t go anywhere for ages then go out twice in one day.

The marvellous Steve had confirmation of his job offer today – he starts his new career as a Probation Officer on the 22nd of January.  Well done that man.  That covers most of the summer holidays childcare wise so we will be OK in that respect.  How does he feel about his new job?  I think he needs to come on here and tell you himself at some point.  Congratulations are in order for a major career shift though I think.

I won something…I never win anything so I was thrilled to get this today.  All the staff received an Xmas card from the boss and they all had a different personal message.  Give her credit here, it can’t have been easy writing something nice, positive and fitting for each member of staff!!  Each card also contained a raffle ticket.  There were 3 prizes: a token, a hamper and 2 cinema tickets.  I won the hamper!! It contained  Xmas goodies like crackers and sweeties and 2 mince pies – so stuff walking home today, I wasn’t carrying that!!

We have handed over the deposit for the house, so it must be going ahead right enough.  We now need a definite date (which we probably already have but I need it confirming).  We had thought we would keep on the rental for a week or two until we could paint and do what we thought needed doing but as Steve will be starting work we now think we would be better to move in and then decide what we need to do.  Apparently paint is horrendously expensive for some reason here so I guess we need to make sure and pick colours right first time otherwise it would be a costly mistake.

Just been food shopping, for the last time before Xmas as far as I am concerned!  We spent an absolute fortune but that it what usually happens isn’t it?  On the bright side, we went in the evening, it is relatively warm, only just dark by the time we finished and there were no queues at the check-outs.  I don’t miss Britain at all at the moment.  Xmas dinner is going to be Indian again this year.  Since the boys left home we have been having alternative festive meals and I think Indian is a winner.  We will collect it the day before and heat it up on Xmas day.  We did intend a trip to the beach but I have decided that as I don't finish work until 4pm that it would be better to stay at home and sloth out with the junk food on the sofa.  I'm already there in my head!
