Don't stand downwind!!Posted on Tue 19 December 2006 at 10:26I’ve just bought a red suit and I’m in the process of trying to grow a beard… Why I hear you ask? Well I have put on so much sodding weight recently I feel there is a good chance of a seasonal job in the offing filling in for Santa bloody Claus. I can assure you there has been very bloody little Yo Ho Hoing since I weighed myself! I haven’t really paid much attention to my weight since we left York in early September. It was good to catch up with everyone, eat junk food and have big helpings and meals out and not worry about it But since our shipping was delivered I have not been happy. I have now been reunited with the scales; the rest of my clothes and the full length mirror and it is not a combination I am liking at the moment. I must have put on over a stone in total – not helped by the fact I am still not smoking as smoking does raise your metabolic rate and keep the weight off (that is a fact incidentally, not something I have made up. I ought to know, being registered smoking cessation person!). So in spite of it being a week or so until Xmas, I am determined to lose some of it at least. Just don’t stand downwind as I have embarked on a veg soup and fresh fruit detox-type diet of my own devising for the next few days. The non-smoking will be a year come New Year by the way, with a minor hiccup in May, sorted out by a quick trip to my friendly local hypnotherapist. I have honestly not looked back since that day. So well done me. Talking of our shipping, the only things broken were 2 dinner plates, a small mirror, the very tip of my smaller dragon’s wing and a photo frame so really, it hasn’t been too bad. It is not worth claiming as the excess is well above the damage done. Everything fits here for the moment and I ended up putting 3 boxes and an ironing board in the bath and draping it tastefully with a sheet. I then told one of Melissa’s friend it was a body under the sheet….I’m not sure she washed her hands before eating after being told that! I have had to refrain from unpacking all the boxes as we hope to be moved quite soon. Steve and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary on Monday so well done us!! For those who attended our wedding, it just doesn’t seem that long ago eh? Where has the time gone?!! He still laughs at me and sometimes with me so I’m figuring it’s good for another 14 at least. The house… well, the builder’s report came back OK so it looks like we are definitely buying the house with the gully views. I’m delighted and nervous by turns as most first time buyers probably are. Is it a good time to buy according to the property market here? Is it a good investment? Will prices suddenly start going down now we have agreed a price? Is it going to fall down around our ears? Will it slide into the gully next time it rains?? All this and more goes round and round inside my head. Mixed in with other stuff like: Do kingfishers mate for life? Do spiders use a template? If the whole world cut their toenails at once, how big would the pile be? Who made up the word onomatopoeic? What % of the air we breathe is actually recycled farts? Y’see, I have a lot to think about….. Anyway to get back on track… So Steve has instructed the solicitor to go unconditional so now we are waiting to see how we go about the next bits. We take it over mid January and probably move in the following week so aim to be in by the start of February. Scary!! It has been good to catch up with Ben and Dave from Clifton House. We all use the henriluoma.net games site, so as they have been on night shift and I have been playing in the evening, we have exchanged PMs online. Hope the works night out went well chaps. Any other gamers – feel free to join in – I’m Karonious on there as well. We went to the Mount again on Sunday and it was the nicest day so far. Melissa took a friend and they were in and out of the water for hours. I put sunblock on as I got dressed – factor 25 no less as the sun is damned fierce here. Steve and Melissa assured me they had also applied some. So why are they both burnt? Because they weren’t as organised as me and only put some on at the beach – and we only had factor 15 with us. Steve managed to burn one side of his face only and had to go and see the mortgage people on Monday – my how I laughed!! I scavenged another 2 bags of shells to string on my line; it could probably go round the house by now. It keeps me happy though and doesn’t bother anybody else so I count it as one of life’s simple pleasures. I must do a proper bit on that at some other time…..
