No more hair pulling

Posted on Mon 30 October 2006 at 05:06

No more hair-pulling and face rending as I took Poppets advice and typed this up on Word, then transferred it.  Well done that woman and thank-you!

I need to recap on a couple of things:

No return to Poo Central as of yet.  The first set of mothballs melted away but I bought some more and it still seems to be clear.  Hopefully that is the last we see/smell of that.

A chap came out to look at the damaged furniture and the items will be replaced.  He told us that he personally had helped to put the items on the delivery van and of course they weren’t broken then, but that the delivery men had told him there was damage…..quite strange really as we didn’t get the stuff unpacked until long after they had left…. I don’t care as long as they replace it!!

People keep asking how Melissa is doing, but it is like trying to pull teeth extracting information from the Bannit.  I asked her what was the best thing about coming here, what was the worst etc.  She replied ‘why, are you going to write an essay?  She had her first friend come to sleepover on Friday night so it can’t be too bad.  I told her friend she needed to take a sleeping bag, should have mentioned take a bed as well as all Melissa has is the mattress from her new bed – the bed itself won’t be delivered until early November.

She loves the beach but at the moment can’t see the point of surfing – why would you want to get cold and wet on a board, but merrily danced into the sea with all her clothes on.  ‘Ill get changed later’ she said.  Yes, into the shorts that were on underneath her jeans??!  Strange child…. but she’s my strange child so we will leave it at that.

She has been seen by the school dentist and following authorisation from me, has already had a filling – they don’t hang about here.

As I speak she is making friends outside – there is a tiny black cat with huge yellow eyes.  That’s that then, she is settled!

Steve has applied to be a Court appointed Bailiff and a Probation Officer with the Department of Corrections (sounds very Victorian, doesn’t it?) and is waiting to hear back from both of them.  I’m sure at some point he will come on here and let you know all about it.

I spent a long, long, boring day at work today.  It was the first day of a full week of Health board induction.  I have bruised the back of my hand where I kept pinching it to stay awake.  I think the worst thing is that this will go on all week and today is only Monday.  And none of this is specific to my job, just general stuff I am legally required to sit through to work for the District Health Board.  Tomorrow ought to be better, it is to do with Maori culture and as I am completely ignorant (but willing to learn) I will hopefully stay awake through that.

Went to Mt Mauganui again on Sunday.  Remind me why we moved to Hamilton again?  It was the first job I was offered and seemed a good place to start off from as it is relatively central for most things on NI.  To be fair, I do like this city but if I could just move it to the coast, life would be perfect.  It wasn’t a great day weatherwise, but that didn’t really matter, I jst love to be by the sea.  The wind whipped up the swell and there were a few surfers out.  The seagulls could hardly make any headway into the breeze.  Raglan on the other coast (closer to us) seems to be surfer’s paradise from what I have seen.  We beachcombed for some more shells.  Rather than gather loads and have nowhere to put them (very narrow window sills in this house) we are only taking those with holes through them.  We have started threading them on some old washing line and hanging them on the veranda.  They are really quite decorative and make me smile as I see them on my way to work.  One of life’s simple pleasures.

On the way home we passed a sign for Pam’s Pantry Pies.  But as usual, I skimmed it and didn’t read it properly.  I thought it read Pam’s Panty Pies and if you think I am eating one of those you are sadly mistaken!!

We have heard Possums from the back of the house – they make a peculiar ratcheting noise and will forage in your rubbish.  Which of course they did.  They are considered a menace here and it is deemed irresponsible to trap then release them.  You should either poison them or use a humane trap that will kill them immediately.  Melissa of course is not happy about that – ‘but they’re so cuuuuuute’ .  She is right, even though they are vermin, they are cute!!!
