No freeloaders!!

Posted on Tue 24 October 2006 at 08:02

Nothing of note or interest has happened today.

Went to work but that is so confidential that if I tell you I will have to kill you as it is governed by the New Zealand and Karen B Confidentiality Act 2006 (ammended Oct 24th) section 7, paragraph 2, clause (IV).  Look it up if you don't believe me.

Can anyone enlighten me as to squatter's rights here in NZ because I fear we may have a problem.  Got up this morning and found a slug in the bath.  I wouldn't mind but he was using the special soap kept just for visitors and I certainly didn't invite him.  First things first, I got him to cover up with a towel, then I sat him down for a good talking to (didn't work, he slid off the chair).  He put forward a very good argument (and eye stalk or two) that as we didn't use the bath and possession was 9/10ths of the law, what were we going to do about it??  I tried being reasonable - was he prepared to chip in on the rent?  He sarcastically replied 'do you see any pockets?'  Little bastard, must be like royalty and not carry any money!!  OK, what about helping with the chores?  But short of acting as a self-adhesive draught excluder, he didn't come up with the goods.  I politely but firmly told him that we wouldn't put up with freeloaders here and asked him to leave.  He didn't move.. to begin with...

Now, if you ever thought that slugs were slow movers I can most assuredly inform you that they move at a great rate of knots when faced with eviction - and they can fly too depending on how hard you kick them!!  Actually, I don't recommend kicking as they cling on to your sole for dear life, hide on your heel and are back in the sodding bath before you have the door shut!!

Thank-you and goodnight!
