where to startPosted on Thu 12 October 2006 at 06:55Haven't blogged for days as you have probably noticed. We have been really busy organising and when I did find time to come to the library, the computer they gave me wouldn't let me on! The House Took over the rental on Monday, still pleased to have got it. It is a nice little place, but I can't undertand how you can run a kitchen with only three electric sockets. The cupboards are bare MDF on the inside, not a melamine finish like we have in Britainn. As I looked in and saw it the first time, I immediately thought of a very house-proud friend of mine (you know who you are!), and thought what would her reaction be? Absolute horror I would guess! I have now lined all the cupboards with sticky back plastic so they look a lot better and are certainly a lot more more hygenic, The cooker came out of the ark and looked like it still had droppings on it too, but it is scubbing up too. The longe area, dining area and kitchen are all open plan, with a little 'water room' for the washer/dryer. I love the garden, mostly borders and it even has a mandarin/satsuma? tree which I just adore - it is so foreign to us! The phone is connected, I will email it out when I get round to it, along with the address. Tomorrow the hired washing machine and microwave should arrive, we will hire them until our own stuff comes. We have spent loads of money and the furniture we have bought is lovely, just waiting for the fridge freezer to arrive tomorrow and then we will move down there properly. School Melissa has started school and seems to be enjoying it. She tells us she has made friends and she certainly seems happy. She seems to be at least as far on as the kids here, if not more advanced in some subjects. I will get her to add her own bit about school once we get on line at home. Work I stopped in to introduce myself to my new boss yesterday as she will be in the UK for the next few weeks. I was a bit nervous but there was no need at all - she seemed really nice as did the clinical elad nurse I also met. It seemed a relaxed atmosphere so I now have no worries about Monday and starting work. Car An awful lot of the cars here are automatic, but I couldn't see me navigating a new city and trying to drive one of them for the first time, so we settled on a Ford Laser which is 4 years old. The funny thing is, Fords here are actually Japanese! Hamilton The longer I am here, the more I like this city. I think to begin with, you get a bit bogged down with the sheer amount of things that need to be done, but as you work through them, you have time to enjoy the city itself and the people. We took a day off on Sunday as we had been running round for days. Can't remember if I have already told you this or not, so I will just carry on! We went to the Zoo - not big, but pleasant and not crowded either. I did one of the reallly important jobs on my list - Melissa and I joined the Library!.. We all went to the Museum, which has a science section for kids - it was fantastic, really entertaining and interactive - we will be going again! Also went for a walk by the lake. They have a wonderful playpark there - it has play equipment I have never even seen before and the kids seemed to be outgoing and enthusiastic - really good to see. OK, enough for now, hope to be online at home very shortly, will be blogging like mad! Karen B
