The ups and downs of our planned new life to NZ, warts and all!

A good day brings new perspectiveTue 18 March 2008
Woke up this morning to a bright, sunny day.  Steve told me he was taking the day off and intended to take Pip and I out.  I got dressed, put on some make up and brushed my hair!  A big difference to the usual and instantly felt better.  He surprised by us with a trip to the Wairapa - one of my favourite places and lunch out in Martinborough.  Pip loved the exclusive attention, walking through the park holding our hands, she was cute as a button. We sat in the sun, there were no tourists, it was quiet apart from the locals calling out to each other.  Its such a lovely little town full of character.  Not pretentious, not trying to be anything else.  Just a small, friendly, picturesque town.  Memories of camping around NZ a few years ago and happening across these small towns came back.  The feeling of freedom and exploring and the reason we chose to come to this god forssaken country came to light.  For the first time in weeks, it felt like we were back in the SI, seeing gorgeous scenery, watching friendly local people.  For the time we sat in the cafe, we were at peace.  Relaxed, a million miles away from Wellington.  No signal, so no phone calls.  No traffic, no rudeness, no frustrations.  Just a sleepy, pretty town on a beautiful day.  We decided that the possibility of moving to the SI shouldn't be totally dismissed.  ONLY for the short-medium term though, I sure as hell couldn't live in NZ for more than a year or two!  We could explore other countries and this time put in the visa work.  Actually make a choice this time based on what we want.  I still have my dream of working for aid charities and I'm desperate to get to countries like Cambodia, which we shouldn't write off.  If we set a long term goal we should be able to persue our dreams.  Being in the SI would be the more sensible decision.  Staying in NZ, saving money, having the baby.  Until such time that we can move smoothly to where we want to go.  Canada is still our ultimate place to reside, but that will be our final destination, so I don't think we're quite ready to settle yet!  So, as much as I hate NZ I know its not in our best interests to take off in the night and float around until we find somewhere we like.  I really enjoyed today and I'm so glad that I still have the capacity to feel content and happy.
